Scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki (pictured) has revealed why you should never eat grapefruit while taking certain medication

The radio personality said oral drugs such as anti-depressants and even ViagraViagra are absorbed at a quicker rate into your body after eating grapefruit ‘by a factor of three’ (stock image)

‘(Grapefruit) sounds unquestionably healthy and it’s got vitamin C which surely has to be a good thing but what most people don’t know is that grapefruit can interfere with the blood levels of certain medications,’ the radio personality said in the clip.

‘Way back in 1991, a Canadian doctor discovered that grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of a high blood pressure medication by a factor of three.’

Since then, Dr Karl said there has been more evidence the citrus fruit can increase the absorbency of other drugs like antivirals, antidepressants, and Viagra.
