Seaport Marine: 4-alarm fire blazes through block in Connecticut
17.02.2023Multiple fire departments in responded to a massive four-alarm fire at the Seaport Marine in Mystic, Connecticut, late Sunday evening.
The blaze broke out around 8.45pm and consumed major portions of Washington Street in the New England town. The fire was undthat several buildings had caught fire with some collapsing during the inferno.

One woman who is in the area reported hearing a ‘loud explosion’ across Mystic River before she came out and discovered the massive flames.
Another indicated that ‘multiple explosions’ could be heard by residents who were viewing the fire from across the river.
‘We’re alright and the fire dept is on it,’ the woman captioned the video posted to Twitter late Sunday evening.’
According to EWeather, the fire was exacerbated by weather conditions in the area.
‘This video is insane of the Mystic fire. It was so intense, fueled by those strong southerly winds, that it’s rotating…like a dust devil or tornado. Incredible,’ the Twitter account said while sharing video of firefighters battling the fire.
The 23-second video shows a gigantic cloud of black smoke swirling in front of the flames going strong on the street.
One person who responded to the tweet said: ‘I live right next to the building that’s on fire and we all had to evacuate.’
Mystic Fire Chief Anthony Manfredi Jr. told that several nearby residents were forced to evacuate the home.
Another Twitter user said: ‘My boat was stored in that building until a year or so ago. They don’t store anything in there any longer. Pretty much empty. Thankfully.’

Manfredi said the fire completely destroyed a large storage and office building during the fire. It also damaged an adjacent home.
A local business owner said he had employees calling him to give a grim-update on the fire.
Matt Beaudoin, the owner of Mystic Knotwork, told he received news that the street looked like ‘an inferno’ after the blaze broke out.
‘I’m grateful that the fire were able to take care of the buildings,’ he said.
The business owner also said the Marine Seaport is considered the anchor of the town and is a major part of the tourism industry.

Both power and roads surrounding the fire were out for hours as fire officials worked to extinguish the blaze.
The Salvation Army also responded to the scene to assist, as well.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Stonington Police Deputy Chief Todd Olson said around 10.30pm there are no reported injuries.
According to the fire is the largest the downtown area has seen in more than 22 years.
